Smart about AI. Wise with it.

Artificial Intelligence Honor

What AI is, its history, key terms, expert systems, a field trip and a Bible study — three sessions plus a visit. Open to Pathfinders 10+. Under-13s never create accounts on AI tools in class: they use the in-browser AI Lab (sends nothing anywhere) and watch instructor demos. Taught by an AI subject-matter expert who builds AI systems every day.

Requirement checklist

The big idea

"Wise as serpents, innocent as doves." — Matthew 10:16. Jesus didn't tell us to hide from the world or be naive about it. AI is a powerful tool: understand it well enough not to be fooled, and have the character to use it for good.

What's not in the chip: machines have speed, memory and pattern-matching and predict the next likely word. Love, conscience, faith and a soul are not in the chip — people are made in God's image.

Safety & privacy in class

  • Under-13s use the in-browser lab + instructor demos — no accounts.
  • A parent/guardian signs the permission form for anyone under 18 (and for the field trip / any teen AI-tool use).
  • Privacy by default: no names, photos, school names or prayer requests ever go into an AI tool in class.

AI Lab — see what's really happening

Three mini-demos that run right here on your device. Nothing is uploaded.

1 · Teach a machine a pattern

Draw a shape by tapping cells, label it, then draw again and ask the machine to guess. It "learns" by comparing your new drawing to what it has seen — simple pattern recognition.

Teach a few X's and O's, then draw one and press Guess.

2 · Watch a tiny language model "write"

A language model predicts the next likely word from patterns it has seen. Pick a starter and watch it continue — notice it sounds fluent but has no understanding.

3 · Expert system that shows its reasoning

Early AI used if-then rules. Answer a few questions and watch the rules fire — the system explains why it reached its answer (unlike a black box).

The CHECK habit

Before you trust or share what an AI says, run it through CHECK.

C
Consider the source. AI can be confidently wrong ("hallucinate"). Who or what is behind this answer?
H
Hunt for proof. Verify important facts with a trusted, independent source before believing them.
E
Everyone's privacy. Never put names, photos, addresses, or prayer requests into an AI tool.
C
Character & honesty. Don't use AI to cheat, deceive, or hurt. Give credit; be truthful.
K
Keep an adult in the loop. Tell a trusted adult about anything that feels off — scams, strange messages, voice clones.

Family tip: set a voice-scam safe word at home. If a "relative" calls in a panic asking for money, ask for the safe word — AI can clone voices.
